These are a select few projects I enjoyed working on during my time at The Sports Zone.
WINDOW DISPLAYS
This project was one that I enjoyed the most since I had a lot of creative control over. My approach was to be as experimental as possible. I used materials like vinyl decals, vinyl banners, chalkboard paint, chalk, dyed newspaper, plywood, outdoor carpet, vinyl flooring, books, etc.
I started working on window displays installations the winter of 2011, this project was discontinued shortly after a year in the spring of 2013. The main factor for not continuing was that it took about 4 weeks to finish all 20+ stores. This meant that I was out of the office almost a month for every season. So the company opted for a more simple way to change things up and we began to ship vinyl banners that could be put up by store staff.
EVENT BRANDING
As the company started to sponsor more events and get involve with the community it was important to consider how the brand was being presented. With big events such a Sneaker Con and the Washington Wizards Games at the Verizon Center. The idea was to create something to resemble an in-store experience. So we went with an exhibition pop up display featuring two elements from the stores, the store marquee and a photo of the inside of the store. The size of this display gave the illusion of being inside one of the stores. In addition I created a step and repeat as a lightweight easy to assemble option for small events. The step and repeat option also served as a backdrop for people to take photos.
BROCHURE
Multiple times a year the buying department would travel to retail industry trade shows. I created this company brochure for buyer’s to use as a visual tool to present the company to possible new vendors. The focus of this booklet was to showcase the boutique style layout of new locations, visual merchandising and highlight brands the company already did business with. To put this together I had to work closely with store merchandising staff to ensure the best store presentation possible for me to take pictures. This 8” x 5” custom size project was produced in house, including the printing, cutting, and bounding.
